Emergency Hysterectomy Simulator FAQs
The Emergency Hysterectomy Simulator is an open-abdomen platform supporting hemorrhage control training and fully operable removal of the uterus. It also enables teamwork and human factors training for high-stakes emergency obstetric scenarios, giving surgical teams realistic, hands-on practice with one of obstetrics’ most critical procedures.
It supports the practice of devascularization of the uterus, including ligation of the uterine arteries and supracervical or total hysterectomy procedures.
Each system ships with the simulator base assembly, ten emergency hysterectomy uteri, an open abdomen, artificial blood with an infusion injector, a 16 oz bottle of lubricant, simulated intestines, and a spare hardware kit — everything needed to begin high-fidelity training right out of the box.
The simulator uses OEI’s artificial blood and infusion injector system. Blood is injected into the upper third of the uterus, then massaged through the tissue to distribute it realistically — creating an authentic hemorrhage-control experience during the procedure. Setup takes just minutes before each training session.
Simply wipe the simulator clean with mild soap and water — the entire model can even be rinsed with a hose. After every session, remove all lubricant with a warm, damp cloth or baby wipes, drain any fluid from the abdominal cavity, and air-dry all parts thoroughly before storage. Always use only OEI-supplied lubricant and artificial blood to protect the silicone components.
