Can Simulator Training Help Turn the Tide in Maternal Mortality?
According to the CDC, the maternal mortality rate for the United States in 2023 was 18.6 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. On an international scale, this places the US at 55th, just behind Russia (17 per 100,000) and just ahead of Ukraine (19 per 100,000). When women of color older than 30 are considered as a subset in the US, their rate of mortality in childbirth is four to five times as high as that of Caucasian women. One specific area of complication for these women is postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Can simulation-based training help turn the tide? Read the study.

Do Women Receive CPR Less Often Than Men?
It is surprising to learn that women who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital receive bystander CPR less often than men, even though it is a proven intervention associated with improved rates of survival. According to research, women received CPR in 39% of witnessed instances of collapse whereas men received CPR in 45% of their cases. That may not sound like much, but it definitely impacts survival with men surviving at a higher rate.

Stop the Bleed Training: Saving Lives When Seconds Count
Stop the Bleed training has emerged as a critical public health initiative, teaching everyday citizens how to respond effectively during bleeding emergencies. At the heart of this life-saving program is simulation-based learning – a powerful educational approach that transforms theoretical knowledge into practical, reflexive skills. Let’s explore how simulation is revolutionizing Stop the Bleed training and why it matters.

Celebrating National EMS Week: Honoring Our Frontline Lifesavers
Every year, we set aside a special week to honor the dedicated professionals who comprise our Emergency Medical Services (EMS). National EMS Week, celebrated in May, gives us the opportunity to recognize the tireless commitment and life-saving care provided by paramedics, emergency medical technicians, emergency dispatchers, and other EMS practitioners nationwide.

Here’s How the Air National Guard Is Leading the Military in Medical Training
This year, Operative Experience, Inc. (OEI) will place a total of 206 high-fidelity TCCS Plus Pro male and female medical simulators at 103 ANG sites nationwide. If it sounds like a big project, that’s because it is. This visionary undertaking is the first of its kind in the military space.

The Vital Role of Combat Medics-Heroes on the Battlefield
Combat medics stand at the intersection of warfare and healing, embodying a unique paradox in military service. These specialized military personnel are trained to provide life-saving medical care in the most hostile environments imaginable. Their story is one of extraordinary courage, skill, and compassion in circumstances where all three are tested to their limits

The Hidden Crisis Emergency Obstetric Training in America’s Rural Hospitals
Rural hospitals across the United States face a perfect storm when it comes to obstetric emergencies. With maternal mortality rates rising nationwide, the challenges of providing adequate emergency obstetric training in rural settings deserve urgent attention. Today, fewer than half of rural counties have hospital obstetric services. For the rural hospitals that are still providing obstetric care, maintaining emergency readiness poses significant challenges.

Saving Lives Under Fire: Inside the U.S. Army’s Medical Simulation Training Revolution
In the high-stakes world of military medicine, preparation can mean the difference between life and death. The US Army’s Medical Simulation Training Centers (MSTCs) stand at the forefront of this preparation, offering cutting-edge facilities that transform theoretical knowledge into practical, life-saving skills. These specialized centers provide immersive training experiences that prepare medical personnel for the complex challenges they’ll face in combat zones and other operational environments.

Prolonged Field Care: Meeting the Challenges of Extended Battlefield Medicine
Prolonged Field Care (PFC) represents a critical evolution in military medicine, addressing scenarios where evacuation to higher levels of care may be delayed for hours or even days. This approach has become increasingly relevant in modern warfare, where combat operations often occur in austere environments far from traditional medical facilities. In conventional military medicine, the “golden hour” principle emphasizes rapid evacuation to surgical facilities.

What You Should Know About the First Female Simulator Accredited by the Army
This past month, Operative Experience made medical and military history with its groundbreaking and innovative simulator, the Prolonged Casualty Care Female Simulator (PCCS Pro), the first of its kind to be accredited by the U.S. Army. To ensure that women service members receive appropriate and quality medical care in the field, the Army has placed PCCS Pro Female mannequins in all 23 of their Medical Simulation Training Centers (MSTC). These centers provide realistic battlefield and pre-hospital care training for military members.

Revolutionizing Air National Guard Trauma Training Through Simulation
With one of the largest single procurements of training simulators to date, the Department of Defense (DoD) is equipping the Air National Guard (ANG) with the most ruggedized, high-fidelity human patient simulators on the market today. Operative Experience, Inc. (OEI) will begin equipping 90 Air National Guard sites with high-fidelity Tactical Casualty Care Pro Series (TCCS Pro) simulators, designed to meet the latest Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training requirements mandated by the DoD.

Lou Oberndorf establishes the Oberndorf Clinical Artificial Intelligence Scholars Award
Last year, OEI Chairman and CEO, Lou Oberndorf established the Oberndorf Clinical Artificial Intelligence Scholars Award at the University of Florida, the college’s first-ever AI-focused award. The award creates an endowed fund that will be disbursed in perpetuity as a monetary prize for second-, third- or fourth-year medical students working on AI-focused team research projects.

Transforming the Simulation Solutions Industry with Never-Before Innovations
OEI’s Tactical Casualty Care Simulators, and OBGYN simulators RealMom, and the C-Celia suite of emergency obstetrics simulators for C-Section, postpartum hemorrhage, and hysterectomy training are the most advanced simulators on the market today.

Trends in Nursing Education and Training
There is a never-ending demand for high-quality patient care. Yet, there continues to be a widening skills gap caused by the early retirement of seasoned healthcare workers. MedPage Today stresses that this shortage is not a novel issue. A paper in Nursing Economics from 2010 estimated that more than 1 million registered nurses would retire from the workforce between 2010 to 2030 and take years of knowledge with them.

Changing landscapes of military conflicts require rethinking of casualty care.
On the battlefield, care providers have what is called a “golden hour’ to apply their life-saving skills at the point of injury before handing off to a fully equipped military field hospital.
Senior Military leadership are warning that future conflicts with near-peer adversaries such as China, Russia, North Korea, Iran and others will create a “tyranny of distance” that will impair the quick evacuation of wounded combatants to a higher level of medical care. This creates a Prolonged Casualty Care (PCC) situation for Service Members.
